REEBOK IVERSONICS, basketball shoe design process: part 6 - the shoe! (at least, 95% of it)
The wait is over!
Here is your first look at the (almost) final Reebok Iversonics concept shoe!!!
Flash back to part 4...I’ve left you with three final concepts as the result of my sketching and concept development phase, asking you about which one would have been taken over for the rendering phase.
Part 4 - final stage
As you have already seen, after taking some time to think, I’ve decided none of them was ready, so I’ve started a further development round to refine the concept a little more.
Sketching phase - further development
This further development phase started evolving the right side sketch of the final stage of part 4, redesigning the tooling (left to right at top of the image just above).
The right side sketch at the top immediately got the right feel, also the lace cover looked cool.
Then, at the bottom row of the picture above, fine tuning the tooling, I’ve incorporated an evolution of both the lace cover and the supportive part of the upper of center version of part 4 sketches and...boom!!!
The concept was there.
At this point I was quite happy about the result, since this last sketch kinda blends together the best of each one of part 4 concepts: overall upper silhouette and tooling volume from left side sketch, upper parts from central sketch and forefoot portion of the midsole from right side sketch
You could notice that these final development sketches are quite small, raw and instinctive, this way, they helped me to quickly evolve the idea and get to the final result.
Final sketch - as rough as you can get!
The one above is a more detailed version of the final sketch of this last concept evolution phase, still made in a couple of minutes.
Since the overall look was already very promising, also considering the research/fun nature of this project, I’ve decided to stop the sketching phase and finalize the concept.
To speed up the process and get some quick dopamine ;), I’ve immediately bounced the last sketch to AI (very basic Google Gemini) to see how it could look like in a realistic render.
Final concept - early AI renditions
AI renders confirmed me the concept was moving in the right direction so, without any further time spent on AI, I’ve started to digitalize the design in vectorial format, refining the shapes and the lines, to get to the final design.

Reebok Iversonics - final render
Here it is!
This is the final render of the Reebok Iversonics shoe concept.
As you can see it doesn’t feature logos and branding, plus the colourway is a basic evolution of the one featured in the last sketch.
So let’s say this one is a weartest sample and now it’s time to dive into the weartesting phase ;)
Weartesting phase, with AI help...
After checking the proportions and the way the shoe will look like in real life, having fun and experimenting with AI tools, it will be time to define the colourways and apply logos and textures.
Which one of the logos featured on part 5 should be adopted? Which colourways do you want to see developed?
Let me know your thoughts in the comments below and, if you want to see the final chapter (maybe), stay tuned for part 7!
